Course Description:
In this course, Illinois Doc Assist psychiatric consultants, Dr. Diane Misch and Rhapsody Mason LCSW, discuss common perinatal mental health concerns encountered by primary care physicians in practice. Skills in identifying and treating these disorders in the primary care setting are presented.
Course Objectives:
1.Identify and differentiate between a range of perinatal mental health conditions and understand the importance of screening and assessment.
2.Identify, score, and interpret at least one established perinatal mental health screening tool.
3. Learn to use patient-centered communication and counseling skills to discuss results of screening and assessment.
4. Be aware of evidence-based interventions and resources for perinatal depression.
5. Know where and how to refer perinatal patients for further mental health care.
